CHI Au Pair – Pregnancy and Parenting Resource

About the author: Hi, I’m Nicole DiBella, your Lawrenceville Doula. I bring to you knowledge, support, and resources as you experience this new adventure in life. I want you to believe in you as much as I do!

I recently had a booth at the Atlanta Baby & Child Expo, and one of the other exhibitors was CHI Au Pair. I wanted to share this option with the families I serve as I get lots of questions about resources for childcare…

CHI has been in operation since 1980. CHI Au Pair serves busy families in the Metro-Atlanta area who are in need of 30 or 45 hours of childcare/week and at the same time are interested in engaging in a cultural exchange experience to enrich their lives.  Eligible Host Families are US Citizens or legal permanet residents, have an extra room in the home for the au pair to stay, and complete CHI’s personal interview, character reference, and background check screening process. CHI has au pairs and families placed in all the major cities around the USA.  Within Atlanta, the company services cover the metro area.

CHI Au Pair USA is a non-profit, State Department-approved cultural exchange program that brings qualified young people to the United States from all over the world to provide loving and affordable childcare in your home.   “Au Pair” is a French term meaning “on par” which aptly describes the relationship between an au pair and his/her host family. Au pairs live as a member of their host family, not as an employee. Their stay lasts 1-2 years during which they can  provide up to 45 hours of childcare a week.  All CHI Au Pairs are highly qualified and experienced many with over 500 verified hours of previous childcare work, and all have passed thorough background checks and screenings.

Amanda Paniagua (Au Pair Coordinator, Atlanta) has a background that brought her to this position that is a bit unique- when she was a child growing up, her family hosted several au pairs (and exchange students) in their home, many of whom they still keep in touch with to this day. She says:
The experience of having these warm, intelligent, international people around me as a child enriched my life and shaped me into the person I am today, and so I became the Au Pair Coordinator for CHI in order to help share this wonderful experience with other families who could benefit from it today.

Hosting an au pair is actually a very affordable childcare option, especially for families with multiples or more than one child in the home.  The cost is about $343 per week, per family, (not per child!) and there are flexible payment plan options available.  Also, if you REFER a family that matches with a CHI Au Pair, you can receive a $250 check for the referral!
